Learn Formal Arabic – Understand the Quran – New Course Starting October 2023 by HA Meem Foundation

Saturday Mornings 10am – 12.30pm

The Arabic foundation year serves as a great grounding for anyone who wants to understand the Quran in the Arabic language, as well as those who want to pursue further studies in Islamic sciences coupled with confidence in speaking classical Arabic.   The course has two major components both together will help students develop on all their language skills. The speaking and listening component work on developing the conversational skills of students from day one. This is to provide students with holistic, more natural learning experience which is also more enjoyable. The reading and writing component will have students learning approx. 70% of the grammar and morphology of the Arabic language. Students will apply these rules to translate sentences of both Arabic and English. Students will be translating verses from the Quran and various supplications by the end of the course. 

During the Arabic Foundation Year students will:
70% of the grammatical content and morphology of the Arabic language
Students will be working on all four language learning skills speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Students will gain profession in speaking classical Arabic with confidence. As well as being able to grammatically analyse verses of the Quran and selected duas (prayers) such as the following:
  اللهم علمنا ما ينفعنا ونفعنا بما علمتنا وزدنا علما يقربنا منك برحمتك يا أرحم الراحمين

Qualifications

Students will complete a final examination at the end of the programme.   There will be subsequent levels of study offered depending on demand.

1. Arabic Tutor Series (Volumes 1, 2) – Supplementary notes will be provided by the Teacher
2.  Arabic Tutor Series (Volumes 3) – Completion dependent on students
3. Grammar and morphology explanations from the teachers own personal notes
4.  Speaking course notes (Teachers notes)

Prerequisites
Students need to be able to read the Arabic alphabet and words with vowel. Understanding of the meanings are not required.

Instructor:
Ustaadh Imran Salim

Imran Salim began studying Arabic language with Ibn Jabal Institute (now Arabica Institute) during the summer of 2006. After completing their syllabus and a short stay in Syria he later returned and taught for them. He is currently on their team of teachers and has been teaching Arabic for over a decade.

He joined the Sacred Text Syllabus in 2013 in pursuit of studying the Islamic sciences. He is currently studying advanced texts and completing his studies with his teachers. Imran has been very fortunate to study under Shaykh Sjaad Hussain, Shaykh Shammas Tubraiz and Shaykh Maan al-Dabbagh.
Imran has received an ijazah in the famous Arabic grammar text al-Ajroomiyah from his teacher Ustaadh Muhammad Abdulfattah who is the founder of Zajel Arabic Institute in Egypt.  

Imran studied Mathematics at King’s College London and is a teacher and course leader for A level Maths and Further Maths
