This supplication is very effective; Sayyiduna Zain al-‘Abidin narrates that ‘Whosoever prays this supplication anytime between sunrise and sunset on Ashura, or has someone else recite it and listens to it, then Allah willing he is assured of life for another year in which he will not die. If death is destined for him, then he will somehow forget to recite this supplication.’
