The Last Wednesday of Ṣafar
Many of the pious state that on the last Wednesday of the month of Ṣafar, Allah sends down the trials and tribulations that will occur throughout the year. These trials and tribulations are spread out accordingly and apportioned to specific people. The pious thus recommend making certain supplications and performing certain devotional acts seeking Allah’s mercy and gentleness during this time to avoid being apportioned any trial or tribulation.
- They recommend praying four rak‘āt (between sunrise and midday with the intention of Ṣalāt al-Ḍuḥā):
In each of the four rak‘āt one should recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, followed by:
o Sūrat Al-Kawthar (Chapter 108) 17 times
o Sūrat Al-Ikhlāṣ (Chapter 112) 5 times
o Sūrat Al-Falaq (Chapter 113) once
o Sūrat Al-Nās (Chapter 114) once
- Then this supplication should be recited:
Bismillāh Ar-Raḥmān Ar-Raḥīm, wa ṣalla Allāhu ta‘āla ‘ala Sayyidinā Muḥammadin wa ‘ala ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallam. {Allāhumma} yā shadīd al-quwā, wa yā shadīd al-miḥāl, yā ‘azīzu dhallat li ‘izzatika jamī‘ khalqik; ikfinī min jamī‘ khalqik, yā muḥsin, yā mujammil, yā mutafaḍḍil, yā mun‘im, yā mukrim – yā man la ilāha illā anta, bi raḥmatika yā arḥam ar-Rāḥimīn.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. May the prayers and peace of Allah the Exalted be upon our Master Muḥammad, and upon his Family and Companions. O Allah, Possessor of intense strength and power, O Glorious One, Your entire creation is humbled before Your might – protect me from Your entire creation, O Charitable One, O Beautifier, O Gracious One, O Giver of Blessings, O Generous One – there is no god except You, we ask Your Mercy, O Most Merciful! O Allah, by the secret [blessing you have given] Al-Ḥasan and his brother [Ḥusayn], his grandfather [the Messenger of Allah], his father [‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib] – protect us from the evil of this day and from what descends on this day, O Sufficient Protector! Allah will suffice you against them, He is the All-Seeing, All-Knowing. Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs, and there is no might or power except by Allah, the Exalted, the Mighty. May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon our Master Muḥammad, his Family, and Companions.
- They also recommend reading Sūrat Yā-Sīn, and when reaching the verse:
Salāmun qawlan min Rabbin Raḥīm (36:58) to repeat that verse 313 times After finishing the Sūrah, read this supplication:
Allāhumma ṣalli ‘ala Sayyidinā Muḥammadin ṣalātan tunjīnā bihā min jamī‘ alahwāli wa al-āfāt, wa taqḍī lanā bihā jamī‘ al-ḥājāt, wa tuṭahhirunā bihā min jamī‘ as-sayyī’āt, wa tarfa‘unā bihā a‘la ad-darajāt, wa tuballighunā bihā aqṣa al-ghāyāt, min jamī‘ al-khayrāt, fi al-ḥayāti wa ba‘d al mamāt. {Allahumma’ṣrif ‘annā sharra mā yanzilu min as-samā’ wa mā yakhruju min al-arḍ, innaka ‘ala kulli shayy’in qadīr. Wa ṣalla Allāhu ta‘āla ‘ala Sayyidinā Muḥammadin wa ‘ala ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallam.
O Allah, bestow prayers upon our Master Muḥammad by which You save us from all threats and calamities, fulfill all our needs, purify us from the entirety of our sins, and by which You raise us to the highest levels and allow us to reach our greatest aspirations in this life and after death. O Allah, avert from us the evil that descends from the heavens, and from [the evil] that comes from the earth – indeed, You are have power over all things. May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon our Master Muḥammad, his Family, and Companions.
Finally, it is recommended to supplicate for one’s spiritual needs as well as one’s worldly needs and to ask Allah for protection and good health.
