Selected Hadith Qudsi

Module on Hadith, taught by Shaykh Thaqib Mahmood

Module Description

Selected Hadith Qudsi

A Hadith Qudsi ( حیدث قدسي ) is a specific category of Hadith in which the Prophet
Muhamma d صلى الله عليه وسلم transmits words directly from Allah. Unlike the Quran, these
statements are not included within the Quranic text; rather, the meaning
originates from Allah, while the phrasing is attributed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. The
term “al-Ahādith qudsi” (plural: qudsi) encompasses various aspects of Islamic
thought, offering legal, spiritual, moral, and eschatological guidance. Such
prophetic utterances provide enduring perspectives that deepen the
understanding and practice of faith.

This module expands on the previous one by selecting different hadiths and
mainly different themes from Module One. In this course, we will examine a
carefully curated collection of al-Ahādith qudsi, organised around a central
theme. It is based on the work of contemporary hadith scholar Allāmah Shaykh
Muhammad ‘Awwamah (May Allah preserve him), titled ‘Min Ṣihāh al-Āhādith
al-Qudsiyyah’, drawn from authentic al-Āhādith al-Qudsiyyah. We will study a
total of sixteen al-Ahādith qudsi, focusing on the following themes:

1. Arguably the most significant and encompassing Hadith Qudsī
2. How belief in Allah informs our actions and worship
3. Hadith Qudsī from other Prophets.
4. Allah’s honouring of His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and His صلى الله عليه وسلم Ummah
5. On the merit of voluntary acts.
6. On softening the hearts, remembrance, and supplication.
7. On keeping promises and fulfilling agreements.
8. Description of the people of paradise and hell
